1.The art process consists of 4 key elements. Describe, what do you see in the art, Analyze, color, value etc. Interpret, what is the mood of the art, and lastly Judge, what is your opinion on the art. 2. The old piece i will be critiquing is the coal work i made. When first starting this piece i had to decide first what i was going to make. With no experience in coal works before i had limited options. So i decided to look for ordinary things and the first thing that catches my eye, i would make. And so i looked and at first glance i see a the beaming red color of the fire extinguisher. Now Coal is black like really black so i had to figure out how i would make a black extinguisher stand out on a black paper. When i analyzed and figured out the walls were cinder blocks. which mad a rectangular pattern all through the wall. making the background a lighter shade of black/gray it helped contrast the black extinguisher. My picture wont upload to this page but it is on my work page. 3. The sketchbook warm up i found most helpful and beneficial was the perspective sketch we worked on. I never understood how to make a hallway look like a a hallway. but after the warm up and some trial and error i finally got it down. Eventually i used this technique for my perspective painting of a road in a dessert. 4. We did a lot of illustration friday’s and i believe they helped me the most first quarter, when i was working on my ink dot piece. I used an illustration friday as my first brainstorm and rough draft and it came out great after. 5. If i could do over a project i would do my portrait piece. I was trying to do a mainly pencil sketch and it came it great. but i would’ve rather had it been in color after i saw the detail i could’ve added. Project First i would like to thank you for giving me this opportunity it means a lot. Now I love art but if there’s 2 things i had to pick it would be photography and fashion. And so i used those interests to my advantage and got to work. For my clothing piece, I decided to go with a more band tee/ streetwear look. Pros of this were that i picked a good color scheme and design so it would look good when finished. But something I wish I knew was paint easily absorbed into the clothing so it would take a lot of coats and re painting to get exactly what i wanted. I first sketched up what exactly i wanted it to look like, went to a local thrift and checked out what I could make look even better, went outside and got to work. In my opinion it turned out great, could’ve been better of course but with the resources I had it was perfect. Lastly my photography project. It was a spin-off of my original portrait piece that i didn’t like and wished i could do better so i thought of this. With a film camera i went around for a couple of days trying to capture the most raw portraits i could. Making sure the scenery and placement were perfect and then finally getting the perfect angle for the portrait. After that I would add my finishing touches in post and get the result you see below. I think by far these were the most interesting projects i’ve done and i thank you again for the opportunity to redo my work. DESCRIBE: •My piece is a Custom work on a vintage Beatles shirt using spray paint and paint markers. It has the the Beatles branding on the front and a custom graphic on the back. ANALYZE: •Surrounding The Beatles branding is a heart to represent the love for the Beatles of course, but not just the band in itself but for the culture and widespread influence they had on the world. Their music paved the way for many other legendary musicians and artists. •Continuing this, the heart represents the love for the movements against war and violence members of the beatles led. The Beatles didn’t just make amazing, industry changing music and art, but they were advocates for peace and for the spread of it. INTERPRET: •Now the idea for the back came to mind long before i even bought the shirt. I’m very interested in a new york designers work, who focuses on goth and punk pieces. So some his work has somewhat inspired me. I made sure to keep it to my specific taste and ideas. And it clearly shows. JUDGE: •I found a great success when finishing this piece. It showed a creative, original side of me I knew i had just didn’t use to its full potential. I learned a lot from this as well, that spray paint is very easily absorbed by shirt cloth and that it takes a while for it to look exactly what you wanted it to. But in the end those ways were the only for me to learn. And now I know for my future work.
